이 영화에서 내가 제일 좋았던 대목은
음악적인 부분이나 드라마적인 부분보다는
기술적으로 코엔 형제다운 매너리즘이 돋보이는 부분이었다
태평스러움과 오싹함이 공존하는 르윈의 뉴욕-시카고행,
즉 존 굿맨이 나와 한동안 시끄럽게 떠들다가
죽어버리(면서 마침내 입닥치게 되)는 씨퀀스였다
음악영화로서 이 영화의 개성과 저력은
특정 시대 포크락씬에서 시작,
어린 밥 딜런이 화면 한 구석에서 노래부르는 엔딩씬에 이르러
음악'사'적인 영화로 도약하는 순간,
비로소 거대한 밀물처럼 몰려든다
영화를 본 지 두 달쯤 되었는데 두 곡이 기억난다
한 곡은 충격과 슬픔을, 한 곡은 감동(과 함께 이어지는 웃음)을 주었다
전자는 노래가 하는 역할에 대해
후자는 노래와 노래부르는 자의 삶, 그 관계에 대해 생각하게 한다
